Pediatric Chiropractic in Arlington TX

As parents, our chiropractors know firsthand how much kids can benefit from chiropractic. We want the children in our community to experience the same advantages, which is why we emphasize the importance of pediatric chiropractic care. Whether your child is a newborn or a teenager, the science, art and philosophy of chiropractic still apply. Care can help them get more out of life, grow and develop as they should and avoid common childhood ailments and diagnoses.

Why the Nervous System Matters

It’s easier to raise a healthy kid than to try and fix a correct adult. We need to create a shift in how our world views health. To do so, we have to begin with children. We like to say, “Nerves that fire together, wire together.” You can think of your body as a house. You can buy the biggest, most beautiful one on the block with all the newest appliances. But if there’s no electricity, you won’t be able to use any of it.

You can think of your nervous system as the electricity that runs your body. It regulates every cell, organ, tissue and function. We improve their nervous system so that they can heal, grow and thrive.

How the Nervous System Stops Working

So, chiropractic is key to a healthy nervous system. But what is it that dampens the nervous system to begin with? Spinal misalignments interfere with the ability of the brain to communicate with the spine and the rest of the body. These misalignments can be corrected through gentle, precise chiropractic adjustments.

It might surprise you to find out that the first misalignment in a child’s life typically happens as they exit the birth canal or are taken out of Mom’s body via C-section. Even a gentle birth results in a possible misalignment, making it vital that your child is checked early in life. As your child gets older, they crawl, fall, walk, run and play, which is why we recommend they have periodic chiropractic checkups.

Commonly Helped Conditions

Once a misalignment occurs and the nervous system can’t work as it should, your child can’t express their full health potential. As a result, they may end up with a problem such as

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Ear infections
  • Latching issues
  • Physical discomfort
  • Upper respiratory issues

FAQ

Is it safe to have a baby or child adjusted?

We use about the same pressure you’d use to touch your eyelid for our youngest practice members. Babies usually sleep right through their adjustment. We’ll tailor our technique to what is appropriate for your child’s age, often using just a fingertip hold or a vibration.

At what age should a child start to see a chiropractor?

You can come in as soon as you’re ready to leave home or on your way home from the hospital or birthing center. We recommend that you get your baby checked out as early as you can to have as smooth as possible of a transition into life with your newborn. Our children were all checked within hours or even minutes of their birth!

If my child isn’t sick, why should they see a chiropractor?

Chiropractic isn’t about sick care like the typical medical model in our society. It’s all about staying well by improving the function of the nervous system. When your child’s nervous system is healthy, they can self-heal and self-regulate, just like they were designed to do.

What if my child won’t lie down for an adjustment?

Children with a diagnosis like sensory processing disorder or autism may find it difficult to lie down on command and remain still. Rest assured that we have ways of working with them. We know how to calm them down and use tools like the VibraCussor® to relax them. We can hold them during their adjustment or can even do it while we’re playing with them or while they remain standing.

My child is nonverbal. Can chiropractic help?

Chiropractic doesn’t treat symptoms but rather seeks to improve the function of the nervous system. There is seemingly no limit to what may improve under care. One woman brought in her 10-year-old son, who was nonverbal and in special education classes. After being under care, he would come in chattering and even transitioned back to the normal population at school.
